18353 Bruce David Heron – 5RAR Both Tours

I have just heard that Bruce Heron who served with 6 RAR in Singapore, he was a Vietnam Veteran, not sure if it was with 6 RAR, passed away this morning (29/1) in Devonport Tasmania, he went peacefully and was pain free.

He has donated his body to the University of Tasmania, so there will not be a funeral, but a Memorial Service later in the year.

This info was passed on to me by his auntie who Lyn and I have known for many years, she received a phone call from Bruce’s wife Lorrine.

A memorial service to recognise the life of Geoffrey James Frew 26/1/1939 – 23/1/2022 will be held the Beenleigh RSL Club, 13 Bardyn Halliday Dr, Mount Warren Park QLD 4207 at 11.00 am Monday 31 January 2022.

Funeral Details – Colonel Francis Adrian Roberts MG OAM

As previously advised Adrian Roberts MG OAM, passed away on the 29th December 2021.

Adrian’s family has now advised that Adrian’s funeral details are now confirmed, details bellow:-

28th January 2022 at 1pm at Holy Trinity Church, 18-20 Theodore St, Curtin ACT.

This will be followed by the internment at Woden Cemetery.

The funeral service will be held at 1400 hrs, Thursday 3 February 2022  at Stephen Baggs Funeral Directors 613 Main Street Bairnsdale Vic 3875

Ian’s family requests that all RACMP/MPAA members wear red berets and medals.

Other Corps representatives as appropriate.

All funeral attendees are invited to attend the Bairnsdale RSL at corner of Main Street & Forge Creek Road for refreshments after the service.

We have been advised of the death recently of Patrick Gibbons. Patrick served with 106th  Field Battery in Vietnam from February 1970 until February 1971. He was living in Cooktown. Patrick was 72.

It is with sadness that we have been advised by Wally’s daughter that Wally passed away at home in Lancelin W.A. today.

Wally was in 12 Platoon, during the second tour.

At this time, I do not have any further details. I will forward them when they are available

36086 Ian (Wombat) Athol LAURIE – Military Police

We have lost one of the best, Ian WOMBAT Laurie who commenced as an Army Apprentice and progressed to the Armoured Corps then on to the Military Police.

He resided up near Dargo and while walking with a mate fell down a mine shaft today and was deceased when recovered by emergency crews.

82 years young. Wombat would have turned 83 on 20/01/2022.

He spent his whole working life in the Army and knows many and was mates with many throughout the service.

15830 VINCENT LEO McDONALD, 6 RAR, BOTH VIETNAM TOURS

Sadly, we have just received the following from Graham Smith:

I have just received news from Darren McDonald that his father, Vince McDonald, passed away suffering Covid 19, in Toowoomba at 1820h today, Tues 18th January. His loving wife Kay passed away just 6 weeks ago.    Vince did two tours of Vietnam with 6 RAR.  He was a good soldier, a good man and a loyal friend. Vince was surrounded by a loving family throughout his life. He will be sadly missed. Darren, Vince’s 2nd son, is available to take condolence calls and messages on 0418 829 297,

Funeral information will be provided by email and on Facebook, when known, however, the family are now all close COVID contacts, so it might be a while before we hear.

Please join us in offering our deepest sympathy to those who will mourn the passing of a loved one.  Another 6 RAR family member, taken too soon.
