Farewell to a Sig ~ 18322 John (Jack) Michael Elford

For the record ~ Yesterday we said Farewell to John Michael Elford.   Service number 18322.

Known to most as Jack  – John Elford served in the Royal Australian Corp of Signals from 3rd September 1963  until 2nd September 1969.

His Operational deployment was in Vietnam from 1st June 1965 through to 17th June 1966.

Mass was offered at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Whitehorse Road in Mitcham.

John Cunnington has advised that John (Flags) Toohey has passed away at 8.08 PM on the 20th of May after a long and courageous battle against cancer.

His funeral will be held at St Mary’s Church Goondiwindi at 11.30 AM on Tuesday the 30th of May.

Flags was a member of 4 Platoon B Coy. first tour.

Sadly, we have been informed that James (Jim) HUSBAND, BEM, OAM, passed away at 4.30pm Sunday 21 May 2023 in Coolum.

Jim was the 5th RSM 6 RAR and a Korean (2 RAR 1953) & Vietnam Veteran (AATTV 1964/65 and 7 RAR 1970/71).

Funeral information is as follows:

Vale 3794620 Gnr Peter James JONES – RAA

Peter passed away on 15 May 2023 in Hobart from the consequences of advanced dementia.

Peter served in the Australian Army as a National Serviceman between 1969 and 1971. He was allocated to Artillery and served with 107 Battery in Townsville from mid-1969 and in Vietnam from 5 May to 26 November 1970, when he Returned to Australia on completion of his National Service obligation.

Peter was a Command Post Operator with 107 Battery. He was subsequently a member of the Battery Association and attended the Association’s Hobart Reunion in April 2009.

Vale Barry Watkins – RAA

We have received advice of the death on 15 May 2023 of Barry Watkins. Barry was a builder by trade who completed his National Service obligation in the ’50s and remained with the then Citizens Military Force (CMF).

He was later, the very well-respected Battery Sergeant Major (BSM) of 41 Field Battery at Southport on the Gold Coast during the 1960s.
