I have been informed that Alan passed away on Thu 25 Jan in Rockhampton after a long illness. Live streaming of his funeral on a date to be advised. Alan was a NS soldier and served in B Coy 6 RAR, 1966/67. Condolences to his wife Fay and his immediate family.

Vale 37669 Raymond William Hutchinson – RAA

We have received advice of the death on 1 December 2023 of Raymond (Hutchie) William Hutchinson. He was 83. Hutchie was a regular soldier who served in ‘A’ Field Battery, 102nd Field Battery and 132nd Divisional Locating Battery. He served in Vietnam as a Bombardier with the Detachment 131 Divisional Locating Battery from April 1967 until April 1968. Hutchie died at the Nihl Hospital. He had lived in Dimboola and had served as Secretary of the Dimboola RSL Sub-Branch and was a Life Member of the Wimmera Football Club.

RIP Raymond William Hutchinson.

Death Notice Ralph Alexander Forbes – RAA

We have received advice of the death recently of Ralph Alexander Forbes. He was 78. Ralph was a National Serviceman who served in Vietnam with 101st Field Battery of 1st Field Regiment RAA from September 1966 until June 1967.
Ralph was originally from Proserpine but had been living in Bloomsbury. He was a Life Subscriber of the 101 Battery Association.

No other details are known at this time.

We regret to advise of the passing of Geelong Vietnam Veteran Stan Jaruga on 9th January 2024.
Stan served with 2 RAR in Vietnam from 19th May 1967 to 13th June 1968

He also served as a door gunner with RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam (known as EMU Flight)
In 2018 he was awarded a rare unit citation by Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove for his outstanding service

51811 NORMAN HERBERT GOLDSPINK MBE

20 December 1927 – 9 January 2024

WO2 Norman Goldspink died at 2400 hours on Tuesday 9 January.

Norm enlisted in 1951, he deployed to Japan, Korea and Japan again, during 1952-54. He served with 1 RAR twice, in Korea and Australia. Norm was also posted to the Australian Military Mission in Washington, USA, in 1964. He joined 5 RAR in South Vietnam in January 1967, as CSM Charlie Company and later to take command of 4 Platoon, Bravo Company. He was then posted as CSM of 1 ARU, to complete his tour. Norm had many postings including RSM at the Royal Military College-Duntroon, Infantry Centre and Army Apprentices’ School. He retired in 1982 with the rank of Captain.

A Funeral Service for Norm will be held at Norwood Park Crematorium, 65 Sandford Rd, Mitchell, ACT, on Thursday 18 January at 1500 hours. Live Streaming link will be on the funeral home’s website at https://www.williamcolefunerals.com.au/

I have been advised by Ross Eastgate of the death of Norm Goldspink on the 9th of January.

Norm died aged 96 in Canberra.

His wife Lois predeceased him and he is survived by his children and grandchildren, and thousands of fellow soldiers who remain ever grateful for having been privileged to have known and served with him.

Ross Eastgate has published an obituary in his column in the Townsville Bulletin, I will post it to Frontline Sunday morning.

Funeral details:

The funeral service for Norm will be held in the Chapel of Norwood Park Crematorium, Sandford Street Mitchell ACT on Thursday, 18th January 24, commencing at 3:00pm.

We have been advised by E ‘Dutchly’ Lensing that:

214273 Kenneth Stanley STEVEN, Later nicknamed “Sarge”, formerly of B Coy 4 RAR serving with them in Malaya / Sarawak.

Ken was born on 27 May 1943 and passed away after a long illness on 8 Jan 2024. A private service has been held.

He served with 1 ARU / 9 RAR in 1968 /69 in SVN as a Corporal. He leaves behind his wife, Heather.
