15 December 1948 – 4 November 2023

PTE John Glennon, formally of Balmain, NSW, died on Saturday 4 November.

John, a National Serviceman, Completed his Recruit and Corps Training. He deployed to Vietnam and joined 1 ARU on 12 November 1969, he was with them until 2 December. On 3 December he was transferred to 5 Platoon, Bravo Company, 5 RAR and served as a rifleman. When the Battalion returned to Australia, John was transferred to 8 RAR to complete his tour of duty and returned to Australia 12 November 1970.

A Funeral Service for John was held on Friday 17 November

Vale 17636 THEO ANDRE ALBRECHT – 5RAR

30 June 1941 – 23 November 2023

CPL Theo ‘Dutchy’ Albrecht passed away in hospital on Thursday 23 November.

Theo enlisted in the ADF in June 1959, completed his initial training and joined 4 RAR later that year, then 3 RAR. In 1962 he joined 1 RAR and was a founding member of 5 RAR. He deployed to Vietnam in April 1966 and served for the Battalions full tour, in BHQ as a Clerk, returning with the Battalion aboard HMAS Sydney on 12 May 1967. Theo went on to many other postings retired in 1980 with the rank Warrant Officer Class Two.

A Memorial Service will be held for Theo on Wednesday 6th December at 11:00 hours at Hemmant Cemetery and Crematorium, 500 Hemmant Tingalpa Road, Hemmant, QLD, 4174

Vale 17636 THEO ANDRE ALBRECHT – 5RAR

It is with great sadness that I pass on information of the passing of another of our old mates-at-arms.

Theo Albrecht, EX 5RAR in SVN 66-67 passed away early this morning, Fri 24 Nov 23, in hospital. He’d been unwell lately and was recently diagnosed with lung and prostate cancer.

Funeral details will be sent on when known.

Vale 35865 WO1 Arthur John Bretherton, OAM – RAA

We received advice today of the sudden death this morning, 23 November 2023, of Arthur John Bretherton, OAM. He was 86.

Arthur served in Vietnam with 12th Field Regiment RAA during 1971. He had a long and distinguished career in the Army including postings as RSM of 8th/12th Medium Regiment and
of the Royal Military College, Duntroon.

Funeral details will be advised when confirmed.

Vale 216437 Terrence Martin (Terry) Walsh -RAA

We have received advice of the death on Monday 20 November 2023 of Terrence Martin (Terry) Walsh. He was 80.

Terry served in Vietnam with 108th Field Battery, 4th Field Regiment, as a Bombardier in their Battery Command Post.

Terry died at the Griffith Base Hospital after battling cancer for some time.

A Requiem Mass for Terry will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warrambool Street, Griffith on Wednesday 29 November 2023 at 10.00am. Terry’s family have requested that in lieu of flowers, donations are being gratefully received for Lilier Lodge.

VALE: 39880 (NZ) Major George Whatanui KEREAMA (Retd) – 6 RAR (ANZAC) 1970

Major George Whatanui Kereama (Retd), passed away on 18 November 2023 at Halcombe New Zealand.

George graduated from Officer Cadet School Portsea and on returning to New Zealand and was posted to Malaysia.

He saw active service in Vietnam as the 2IC Support Company 6 RAR/NZ (ANZAC) Bn and continued in that role with 2 RAR/NZ (ANZAC) Bn from May to Sep 1970.

On return to New Zealand, he was promoted to Major as 2IC of 5 RNZIR (Wellington, West Coast and Taranaki).

A funeral service for George will be held on Tuesday 21 November 2023 at 11.00am (NZ Time) at TAUMATA o te Rā Marae, 60 Hastings St, Halcombe (29 kms North of Palmerston, North Island, New Zealand)

Death Notice – Peter Cimbaljevic – RAA

We have received advice of the death on 17 November 2023 of Peter Cimbaljevic.  Peter was called up for National Service in 1970 and remained in the Army and the RAA for over 35 years. The pinnacle of his ARA service was Warrant Officer Class One, and a posting as Divisional Artillery Sergeant Major.

Peter later accepted a PSO commission and served as a Forward Observer, Battery Captain and Battery Commander on promotion to Major, of an Army Reserve Battery. He was a very proud gunner who had attended the recent Australian Artillery Association dinner at Caloundra in August this year. 

A funeral for Peter will be held at the Albany Creek Memorial Park, The Garden Chapel, 400 Albany Creek Road, Bridgeman Downs, Queensland on Wednesday 29 November 2023 at 1.30pm.  A wake to remember the life of Peter will be held at Aspley Hornets Football Club, 50 Graham Road, Carseldine, following the funeral. No RSVP is required.

 Messages of condolence may be sent to me and will be forward to the family.

Vale Jeffrey John (Bucko) Buckman – RAA

Gnr Jeffrey John ‘Bucko’ BUCKMAN passed away, after a long illness, on Sunday 5 November 2023.

Jeff, a national serviceman, completed his basic training, then his Royal Australian Artillery employment training at 1st Field Regiment Holsworthy in 1967. He was posted to 107 Battery at Holsworthy and later in 1967 was posted to A (100) Field Battery in Malaysia as a reinforcement, along with around ten other 107 Battery Members. They all re-joined 107 when the Battery arrived in Malaysia in September 1967 to take over from ‘A’  Fd Bty. 

He was discharged from the Australian Army on the successful completion of his National Service obligation in 1969 and spent most of his life in Esperance, WA. Bob was a foundation member of 107 Battery Association.

He leaves behind his wife Stephanie and daughters Penny and Peta.

Vale 610554 Peter Leslie Turner – RAA

 Hilton Lenard has advised of the death on 12 November 2023 of Peter Leslie Turner.

He was 75.  Peter enlisted in the Regular Army from Tasmania and was allocated to RAA. He joined 107 Field Battery at Townsville in 1969 and deployed to Vietnam with the Battery from 7 May to 13 August 1970, as a FO Sig.

Peter was a foundation member of 107 Bty Assn and attended every reunion until his illness prevented him from attending Canberra in 2023. He organised our very successful Hobart reunion in 2009. Peter is survived by wife Diane, daughters Melissa and Nicole and son Nathan.
