Death Notice John T Hoban – RAA

A notice in the latest RSL NSW magazine ‘Reveille’ lists the death of John Hoban. John was part of a group of 29 ‘Nashos’ who served in Malaya with ‘A’ Field Battery during 1966/67.

John, like many of that group would have turned 79 in the first half of this year (2024). John died around October/November 2023 from cancer. He had been living in Narrandera most of his life.

Death Notice Kenneth Graham Summersford

We have received advice of the death on Thursday 29 February 2024 of Kenneth Graham Summersford. He was 79.

Ken was an ARA Gunner who served in Vietnam with 105th Field Battery, initially as a unit of COMAAFV in support of 173rd Airborne Brigade and later part of 1RAR Group from 14th September 1965 to 6th June 1966, then with 105th FD Battery under 1st Field Regiment 7th June 1966 to 24th September 1966. GNR Ken Summersford was in the FO Party of then LT Alan Hutchinson.

Ken had been living at Wynnum West and was a life member of the 105th Battery RAA Association.

Death Notice Fredrick Albert Cullen, OAM

We have received advice of the death on 22 February 2024 of Fredrick Albert Cullen. He was 102 years young. Fred served in World War II with 4th Field Regiment in New Guinea and discharged in February 1947.

He was a former long-term President of the Ivanhoe RSL Sub-Branch, tireless advocate for Veterans and War Widows and an outstanding Appeals collector for over 60 years. Fred was awarded Life Membership of the RSL in 1986, the Meritorious Service Medal in 2002, and recognised in the Order of Australia in 1991. He was a member of the Victorian RSL State Executive (1984 – 1998) and State Council (1988 – 1959).

Death Notice Judy Floyd

Judy Floyd, the wife of ex Warrant Officer Class One Graham Floyd died early Friday morning, February 23, 2024.

Judy had fought a long courageous fight with her medical issues and passed peacefully at their family home in Ouyen, Victoria.

Their sons Ben and Jason and Graham were by her side.

A funeral for Judy will be held on Friday 1 March. Messages of condolences may be sent to me and I will collate and forward to the family.

Death Notice Willliam (Bill) Pritchard

We have received advice of the death on Monday 21 February 2023 of Bill Pritchard.

Bill served with 102nd Field Battery in Malaya and also with 107th Field Battery. Bill reached the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 and served with 8th/12th Medium Regiment at Holsworthy and with 133rd Divisional Locating Battery.

Vale 2787471 Stewart Wayne McAlpine – RAA

We have been advised of the death on 21 November 2023 of Stewart Wayne McAlpine. He was just shy of his 77th birthday.

Stewart had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in March 2023.

Stewart was a National Serviceman who served in Vietnam with the Detachment 131 Divisional Locating Battery and was employed in the Artillery Tactical Headquarters (Arty Tac) from July
1968 until June 1969.

Vale 3793090 Russell Andrew (Jacko) Jackson – RAA

We have received advice of the death on 5 February 2024, after a long illness, of Russell Andrew Jackson. He was 78.

‘Jacko’ was a National Serviceman who served in the survey section of the Detachment 131 Divisional Locating Battery in Vietnam from February to November 1969.

A memorial service for Jacko is planned for 16 February 2024 from 2.00pm at Johathan
Hepner Funerals, 124 Boundary Road, East Geelong.

Vale: 2105130 Alisdair Gough – RAA

We have received late advice of the death on 3 December 2023 of Alasdair Gough. He was 76.

Alasdair was born in Edinburgh Scotland. He was a National Serviceman who served in both 31A and 31B listening posts during his time with the Detachment 131st Divisioinal Locating Battery in Vietnam between March 1970 and March 1971.

His funeral was held on 14 December at the Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens, Sydney.

Vale 3787036 DONALD ALEXANDER TRELOAR – 5RAR

30 May 1945 – 5 February 2024

PTE Donald ‘Tubby’ Treloar passed away on Monday 5 February.

Don was a 1st intake National Service man, he did his recruit training at 2 RTB, Puckapunyal. Don was then transferred to 2 RAR to complete his Corps Training. In January 1966 he joined 2 Section, 7 Platoon, 5 RAR, as a rifleman. With 5 RAR he completed training at JTC, Canungra and deployed to Vietnam aboard HMAS Sydney on 22 April 1966. Don continued with 7 Platoon and occasionally operated as the platoon’s signaller. He returned to Australia, with the Battalion, aboard HMAS Sydney on 12 May 1967.

A Funeral Service for Don will be held on Thursday 8 February at 1300 hours at the Kyabram Community Church, Cnr McEwen Rd and Crichton Rd, Kyabram, Victoria.
