Pte Stephen Porter passed away on Thursday 30 January.
Steve enlisted on November 1967, did his recruit training at 1 RTB and Corps training at Infantry Centre. He was transferred to 9 Platoon, 5 RAR in May 1968 as a rifleman. Steve transferred to the Q-Store, deployed to Vietnam and completed the 1969-70 Tour with them, arriving in Sydney on 10 March 1970. Steve moved to Ordnance Corps, he had many postings, and he took his retirement 1988 with the rank of WO1.
We have no funeral details at this time.

I have been advised that Mark Finnelley passed away last Thursday 23rd January.
Mark served in the Transport Platoon, 1RAR, during the 1st tour of Vietnam 1965-1966 and has been a member of Chapter 23 – 173D Airborne Brigade (Sep) for the past 21 years.
He will be sadly missed.

I wish to advise of the death of Alfred Brian Wedgwood who served with the Sig Pl in the 1st Battalion in Vietnam 27/05/1965 to 01/06/1966.
He died in the early hours of the 25/01/2025 in the Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia.
Brian as he was known to us lived in Victor Harbor with his wife Gianna and was a founding member of the South Coast Veterans Association Inc. (SCVA)

We have been advised of the death on 21 January 2025 of Graham (Dougie) Walters. He was 65.
Dougie enlisted in 1985 and spent time in 4th Regiment, 13 Field Battery and 1st Regiment. He discharged in 1988 but signed on again in 1990 with postings to 1st and 4th Regiments. He transferred to the Army Reserve in 1996 and served in several Ares units.
After Army, Dougie worked for the Queensland Education Department as a teacher. He had a long battle with cancer but died on the Gold Coast on 21 January.
A funeral for Dougie is planned for Friday 31 January 2025 at 11.00am at the Guardian Angels

Neal, as he preferred to be known, was the OC’s Sig for A Company, 7 RAR Second Tour 1970-71. He passed away 20 January 2025. A service for Neal will be held at Hemmant Chapel, Hemmant and Tingalpa Road, Hemmant, Queensland, on Thursday 30th January 2025 at 2.00pm.

A Graveside service will be held for David at the Deniliquin Cemetery next Tuesday 28th January commencing at 10.30am

David served with the 1st Field Squadron in Vietnam from December 1967 till December 1968

Ben served in the Battalion from 2008 until 2012, and was in Mortar Pl from 2011-2012, deployments included the Middle East 2009 and RCB 2010, on discharge in 2012, he remained in the Active Reserves until 2016.
Sadly, this week we lost a fine young man respected and loved by many. Ben will be greatly missed by all who knew him, may he now be at peace.

Alison Edwards, daughter of Lincoln Gordon (Darky) Edwards has advised his funeral details have been finalised.
The date is Friday the 31st January at 11:00am (QLD Time).
Venue is the Mt Thompson Crematorium, 329 Nursery Rd Holland Park, in the East Chapel.
The Poppy Service will be conducted by Springwood RSL Sub Branch
The after service gathering will be held at Diggers Services Club, Blackwood Rd, Logan Central.
Medals to be worn.
