I am saddened to report that Les Taylor passed away today at 97 years.

Les was a long serving  member of the Sub Branch, and this service was recognised when Les was made a Life Member of the RSL.

His funeral will be held this Saturday (6 April) at 14:00 DST at Melaleuca Station Memorial Gardens, 9394 Tweed Valley Way, Chinderah NSW 2487

Vale: Gary Stephen Keown – US Marine Corps

Sadly, I have been advised of the passing of Gary KEOWN who was US Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran live on the Gold Coast with his wife Leanne. Gary passed away on Friday 22nd of March 2024.

Gary was an associated member of the Queensland Chapter 23 of the 173d Airborne Brigade US Army. He was a valued and popular member who will be missed by the members of the Chapter.

His funeral will be conducted by Somerville Funerals at Somerville Chapel, Nerang-Broadbeach Rd. Nerang. Wednesday 3rd April at 10:00am. Allambie Memorial Park.

VALE – WARRANT OFFICER CLASS 2 BRUNO FLEMATTI, DCM – 1RAR

It is with much sadness that I inform you of the passing of Bruno Flematti, DCM.

Bruno passed away on Friday 22nd of March surrounded by his family.

Bruno’s service included 1 RAR, 6 RAR and 8/9 RAR he served two tours of South Vietnam with 1 RAR for which he was awarded the DCM for his actions in 1968.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00am Friday 5th of April at GEORGE HARTNELL FUNERALS 19-21 ANAC Avenue, Redcliffe

Death Notice 235277 John Henry Griggs – RAA

We have received advice of the death on 5 March 2024 of John Henry Griggs. He was 80.

John served in Vietnam with 1st Field Regiment as a Lieutenant from May 1966 until May 1967. John was involved with guided weapons and was later an instructor at the School of Artillery, North Head. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel and was living in the Bowral area before his death where he was an active member of the local RSL Sub-branch.

Vale Rear Admiral Guy Richmond Griffiths, AO, DSO, DSC – RAN

(1 March 1923 – 5 March 2024)

He was a senior officer of the Royal Australian Navy. After serving in the Second World War and surviving the sinking of HMS Repulse in 1941, he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was Chief of Naval Personnel and Flag Officer Naval Support Command in the 1970s.

He died on 5 March 2024 at the age of 101.

Death Notice John T Hoban – RAA

A notice in the latest RSL NSW magazine ‘Reveille’ lists the death of John Hoban. John was part of a group of 29 ‘Nashos’ who served in Malaya with ‘A’ Field Battery during 1966/67.

John, like many of that group would have turned 79 in the first half of this year (2024). John died around October/November 2023 from cancer. He had been living in Narrandera most of his life.

Death Notice Kenneth Graham Summersford

We have received advice of the death on Thursday 29 February 2024 of Kenneth Graham Summersford. He was 79.

Ken was an ARA Gunner who served in Vietnam with 105th Field Battery, initially as a unit of COMAAFV in support of 173rd Airborne Brigade and later part of 1RAR Group from 14th September 1965 to 6th June 1966, then with 105th FD Battery under 1st Field Regiment 7th June 1966 to 24th September 1966. GNR Ken Summersford was in the FO Party of then LT Alan Hutchinson.

Ken had been living at Wynnum West and was a life member of the 105th Battery RAA Association.

RIP Kennith Graham Summersford.
