Vale: John Rossiter – RAA

Peter Lonergan has advised of the death this morning (20 April 2022) of John Rossiter. John served most of his CMF/Ares career with 41 Battery on the Gold Coast and some time with 5/11 Field Regiment in Brisbane. In the late ‘60s John was Battery Captain of 41 Battery. We believe he also served with 7 Field Regiment in Sydney when he was there for civil employment. John had suffered from dementia and spent his last few years in a dementia facility. John was a knowledgeable officer who related well to the men he commanded.

Vale: Hector Korston – RAA

Geoff Laurie, President of the RAA Association of South Australia has advised of the death on 4 April 2022 of a long-serving South Australian Gunner, WO2 Hector KORSTEN, aged 91 years. His funeral service is being held on Fri 22 April, and is being live-streamed. Geoff advised that Hector was born in South Africa, and served in the Cape Field Artillery, reaching the rank of WO2, before emigrating to South Australia in the early 1960’s; enlisting in 13 Fd Regt as a Gunner, he soon rose to the rank of WO2 again. His experience and willingness to pass it on to other members was highly respected over many years, and his charismatic manner endeared him to all he served with. He was a long-serving member of the RAA Assoc of SA Committee. He sadly battled a long illness over the past few years, and he will be sadly missed.

RIP Hector Korsten
