Vale Frank Leslie Maxwell – RAA

We have been advised of the death on 12 January 2023 of Frank Leslie Maxwell (Max)Davis. Max served with 101 Field Battery in Malaya from October 1959 to September 1961 as a Signaller with Delta Troop. He had joined the RAA in 1957 and was discharged as a Bombardier in 1963. Max was 83 and a Life Subscriber with the 101 Battery Association.

Vale Harry Nicholas ALIDENES – RAA

We have received advice of the death on 4 February 2023 of Harry Alidenes. He was 75. Harry was a National Serviceman with who served with 101 Field Battery on “E” Gun from May 1969 until April 1970. Harry was a Life Subscriber with the 101 Battery Association. He had been battling cancer for a few years and had a stroke a couple of weeks ago.  A funeral for Harry was held on Thursday 9 February 2023 at Leura Memorial Gardens.

VALE John (Snow) VAUTIN OAM – 4RAR & 9RAR

It is with great sadness that I inform you that John (Snow) Vautin OAM passed away over the weekend. John served with 4RAR in B C Coy in Malaya and Borneo and with 9RAR IN SVN.

I have received the very sad news from Michael Growder, one of Peter’s nephews, that Peter passed away peacefully this morning shortly after 8.00am. I have asked Michael to pass on to Fran and all the family members our sincere condolences.

Vale 1731794 David John Haynes MM – 2RAR

18 May 1945 – 28 January 2023

David passed peacefully on Saturday 28th January 2023. David was residing in Stanthorpe.

He served as an Infantry National Serviceman with 2 RAR and deployed for their first Tour of South Vietnam in 1967-1968.

He was from Signals Platoon and served as the A Company, Company Signaller. He was awarded a very well-deserved MM in some very horrific conditions.

David has a street named after him inside 2 RAR (Amphib)’s Samichon Lines located on Lavarack Barracks in Townsville Queensland.

A Company, 2 RAR (Amphib) on Tuesday, 31st of January 2023 conducted a remembrance ceremony in honour of David, reading his full citation to the assembled Company, pausing for a minute’s silence and a floral tribute laid by the Company Commander of A Company.

His funeral will take place on Monday 6th February at 10:00 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, High Street, Stanthorpe followed by a burial service at Stanthorpe Cemetery.

His funeral will be live-streamed as well.
